Reports at the time suggested this new engine was only 6 months from production before MGR crashed, so I was wondering what the likelyhood of this engine resurfacing as the Roewe/MG diesel we've been waiting for? The 16v version reportedly pumped out a healthy 160bhp which would mean it would be pretty much in line if launched today. Surely better to complete that than start from scratch or have to buy in a third party engine?

MG6 is a 1.8-litre five-door fastback designed and engineered in the UK and which will be built at MG’s factory in Birmingham.
MG6 development vehicles in left-hand drive format have been shown at two major events earlier in 2010; however MPH will be the first time that full UK right-hand drive production specification MG6’s have been displayed to the public.
Peter Brooking, MG Motor UK’s Marketing Manager, said: “MPH featuring Top Gear Live crowds are always knowledgeable and enthusiastic so we think the new MG6 will prove very popular with visitors to the shows. “MG6 is not just the first all-new MG model for several years but it’s a true MG with all the hallmarks which have made the brand so popular throughout its long history. It’s a striking, high quality car that is also practical and sporty” This years MPH featuring Top Gear Live events take place at London’s Earls Court from November 4-7 and the NEC Birmingham from November 11-14.

From the Which? car guide Autumn 2010:

Rover 25:

20% (?).

£500-£5000*

"A reworked version of the 1995 Rover 200, the 25 feels dreadfully dated. Safety, fuel economy and safety are poor, and the demise of Rover in 2005 means sourcing spare parts could be difficult."

Verdict: DON'T BUY.

Rover 45: 34% £500-£5000

"The frumpy 45 feels like a relic from a bygone era. It's one of the least reliable cars in its class, although sportier MG ZS models are at least fun to drive. The last gasp of a dying English patient"

Rover 75: 46% £700-£9,000

"WHY BUY ONE? Very cheap to buy. Cosseting ride. Sumptuous seats. Wood and leather lined cabin. Decent handling. Looks a bit like a Jaguar (if you squint).

WATCH OUT FOR: Shocking reliability. Poor residual values**. Question mark over parts availability. Some rust problems. Shallow saloon boot. Brightly-coloured MG ZT versions an acquired taste".

*(wonder if they might want one if they'll pay that much?)

** explain again why this means I don't get a great used bargain?

The cover of the magazine says "NO NONSENSE. NO BIAS. NO ADS."

Well, you could have fooled me. It reads like one big advert for the "prestige" brands and that's the worst biased nonsense I have seen since Which? called the 2CV a "dreadful" car in the 1980s.

OK, I don't expect misty eyes, but I want facts about parts availability and reliability, not clarksonesque clever-clever tittering :gfight:

I can only say these articles were written by complete idiots - and the new MGs will have to be "sold" to them!
